Senator Christopher “Bong” Go has expressed the importance of upholding an independent and transparent Senate amid changes in its composition and potential impact on political dynamics towards the next half of the current administration.

“Hindi pa namin napag-uusapan about sa leadership. But I agree with Sen. Panfilo Lacson na dapat independent naman talaga ang Senado,” Senator Go said during an interview on Monday, May 19.

Highlighting the Senate’s role within the constitutional framework, Senator Go emphasized the need to preserve institutional independence, especially in carrying out oversight responsibilities and shaping legislation.

“Ang importante po transparency at maging independent po ang Senado. Kaya nga po mayroon tayong tatlong branches ng government. Kami po ang dapat na umusisa nang mabuti, to ensure checks and balances,” he pointed out.

As Chairperson of the Senate Committee on Health, Senator Go has consistently backed governance reforms founded on accountability and institutional integrity. He reiterated the significance of the Senate’s function in shaping national laws and allocating public resources.

“Ang importante po dito sa ating gobyerno, dapat independent po ang Senado always, lalung lalo na sa batas. Kasi sa batas at itong sa finance ng inaaprubahan naming budget, last touch po ‘yung Senado. Kami po ‘yung pinakahuli before the bicam. So importante dito independent,” he explained.

He also stressed that the Senate’s integrity should become even more evident as the administration approaches its final year, urging fellow legislators to base their decisions on conscience and principles.

“At ako naman po ay naniniwala ngayon, lalo na ngayon po, going to the second half of the administration, mas lalong dapat na maging independent ang Senado. Bumoto tayo, magdesisyon tayo according to our conscience, according to our principles,” Senator Go declared.
